Black Wedge Booties

Black Wedge BootiesBlack wedge booties are now officially an outfit staple.  There are those of us who try and resist trends, try to avoid rash purchases in the shoe department, having been the victim of impulse fashion buys that feel awkward and silly just one year later.  If, like me, you’ve tried to pare down your shopping during the recent recession, to spend wisely and carefully consider every wardrobe item you acquire, fear no more the black wedge booties.

There are so many things to consider in the wedge bootie…first of all don’t go overboard on the platform.  Want classic black wedge booties that won’t embarrass you within six months when you parade around in Lada Gaga monster feet announcing you’re wearing outdated wrong-looking shoes?  Get a slight platform that suggests the trend without relying on it.  These black wedge booties pictured here are by Via Spiga and in my book they’re just right.

The opening at the ankle is just the right size, at least for me.  It’s not too big and it also hits at the correct spot.  Any higher and I would have trouble wearing it with skirts.  And yes, you can wear black wedge booties with skirts.  To avoid scaring small children, avoid too much of a platform and too big/round toe.  These are perfect because the proportions are smaller in the toe and in the ankle part…dainty but still definitely on trend as black wedge booties.

Suede Wedge Booties by Dolce Vita

October 14th, 2011

black wedge bootiesOk these don’t technically qualify as suede wedge booties since they have some open areas, but they’re close enough.  Without the cutouts, they would be full wedge booties so they kind of make the grade.  Plus, these booties are so gorgeous they deserve a full write up.  They come in black too but this burgundy color is irresistible.  And that’s coming from someone who tries to never pay more than $30 for shoes.  At $180 these are a bit above budget but still under serious consideration.

What’s so great about these Dolce Vita suede wedge booties?  Well the color is what stands out at first.  The color of port wine and because it’s suede there is a rich textured look which comes from having a slightly 3-d effect.  The texture is so soft and rich looking it conjures up images.  It’s definitely a rich, posh look.  Very upscale and and they go with anything that’s tailored like a wool skirt.  Or even better, a leather pencil skirt in black.  Plus a creme colored silk chiffon blouse with a frilly look.  Good thing stores are closed right now because I seriously want to wear this outfit that’s totally based around these  suede wedge booties in burgundy.

How to Wear Wedge Booties

September 19th, 2011

wedge bootiesWedge booties are here to stay, and for those of us who like to bounce around town in style, that’s great news.  Wedge heels are way more supportive of the foot than a traditional heel, like a stiletto or even a chunk heel.  All that surface area under your arches makes wedge booties oh so easy to tromp around in.  For city dwellers, that’s a life-saver because who wants to teeter around from block to block.

Wedge booties usually have some sort of rubber-like softer wedge material that provides tons of cushioning to every step, as opposed to a wooden or hard platform that pounds the bottom of the foot.

You can wear wedge booties with pants or a skirt but make sure the skirt-plus-wedge-booty look is hip or you’ll end up looking like you’re playing a guard in  a Nazi women’s prison movie.

Wearing wedge booties with a skirt almost requires that the skirt be above the knee.  Unless you’re a willowy twenty year old with a finely honed sense of fashion and you have the budget needed to purchase exquisitely tailored longer skirts or dresses that are completely on trend for the current season, you should stick to shorter skirts with the wedge booties.
